Frequently Asked Questions

Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions concerning Amphibico Recreational and the underwater video products we offer. If you have any questions about your order or other subjects do not hesitate to contact us.

There are a number of companies that design and manufacture underwater housings, lights and optics, but the question remains, which manufacturer do I purchase from? Your decision should be based on the fact that you are intending to keep your equipment for a long time to come. The following points are indicators of what to look for in a manufacturers product, not one, not some but all:

  • Quality
  • Reliability
  • Durability
  • Optics
  • User-friendly controls & handling
  • Neutral buoyancy
  • Innovative features & design
  • Customer service.

There is no doubt that Amphibico delivers all of the above mentioned points. Ask any of our existing clients!

Amphibico housings are depth rated and certified for 330 feet. However, there has been on a few occasions, that our housings have seen depth levels reaching 450 feet. We do not recommend these depth levels for the simple reason that the weak point on the housing's front lens is the center point. Exerting pressure can cause this point to implode thus incurring the loss of your camera.

It is not recommended to place your camcorder in the housing when traveling. Your housing and camcorder should fit snugly inside a protective carry case where there is no leeway for movement. Camcorders that are left in the housing can cause damage to the saddle tripod mount, as well as to the camcorder itself, if jerked around during transport.

O-Rings and sealing surfaces should be lightly lubricated with silicon lubricant on a regular basis. This is not necessary for every dive; Every tenth dive during regular heavy use is sufficient. This should always be done before storing the housing and before the first dive after taking housing out of storage.

As you begin your descent into the depths of the ocean, sea, river or lake, sunlight loses its penetration and intensity. As light is lost so is the color spectrum. Color correction filters bring back the lost colors, thus providing a true color image of what the underwater landscape is really like during daylight conditions.

Each underwater housing is constructed from the highest grade of corrosion-resistant marine aluminum. They are anodized, power painted and clear coated providing for high standard quality.

Obviously at night, but on many occasions light is required to help improve the quality of the intended picture. It is extremely useful when cave and shipwreck diving where light penetration is at its minimum intensity, as well as in areas of dense vegetation where it will provide better visibility.

All Amphibico housings, lights and optics have a two year warranty on parts and labor from the date of purchase. Shipping and handling is an extra charge. The warranty will automatically become void if the equipment has been mishandled or abused.

We generally keep all spare parts availability from 5 to 7 years. So if your housing is less than 5 years old we can generally completely repair it, if it's between 5 to 7 years old, you should contact us to confirm if we can repair it, as some parts may no longer be available, and if housing is over 7 years than chances are we will not be able to repair it, if major parts are defective. We can only offer generally o-ring overhauls and testing, but you first must contact us to confirm...

Since Amphibico housings have been customized to fit camcorder specific models, the housings parts that make up the unit, the front and rear bulkheads, saddles, grips and optics have all been configured to match correctly with the camcorder configurations and as a result will most likely not match future models that change constantly.

WE offer a Trade-In-Trade-up program for old Amphibico housings toward the purchase of a new one. Contact us for more details on this program.
